Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia is seeking Inaugural Independent Directors to join its national Board following recent constitutional change.
COTA works to improve the lives of older people throughout Australia. We are looking for a small number of individuals to assist in this work. As the national peak body for older Australians COTA Australia’s areas of policy focus at national level include the ageing population, aged care reform, ageism and age discrimination, consumer rights, end of life issues, energy, financial services, health services, housing, retirement incomes (pensions, superannuation), mature aged employment, taxation and a range of other portfolios.
COTA Australia is seeking expressions of interest from experienced people for appointment as Independent Directors on its Board to complement and strengthen the skills and knowledge base of existing Directors. Expressions of interest from candidates with knowledge of ageing issues or policy issues of relevance to ageing, or an understanding of the community or advocacy sectors would be welcomed. In addition, knowledge in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Stakeholder diversity including from among lived experience as a CALD person or with CALD older people; lived experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; lived experience in or with rural or regional Australia; lived experience as or with other special needs or vulnerable populations.
- Fundraising experience in charitable and philanthropic areas or with high net worth individuals, commercial sponsorships, donor and bequest strategies and campaign fundraising strategies.
- Business development experience, including experience in managing commercial budgets and cashflows, and possibly accounting qualifications.
COTA Australia is a company limited by guarantee, with charitable and public benevolent institution status Membership currently consists of eight Foundation Members (the State and Territory COTAs), but with recent constitutional change will now include national organizations and individual members.
Appointments as Independent Director will be for three year terms. The positions of all Directors are honorary. Expressions of interest are sought by 27 September 2019.
