Federal Budget 2018-19 Pre-Budget Positioning Statement

This year's Intergenerational Report makes much of the need to control the economic impact of the ageing baby boomers. It is expected that by 2056 one in four people living in Australia will be over the age of 65 and 1.8 million of them will be over 85.

September 2017 - Older Australians remain strong subscribers of PHI (with 52.6% of people over the age of 65 retaining coverage)1 despite generally much lower incomes and greater difficulty meeting premiums and out-of-pocket costs after retirement.

August 2017 - COTA Australia appreciates the opportunity to provide brief comments to the Senate Community Affairs Reference Committee Inquiry into the Value and Affordability of Private Health Insurance and Out-of-Pocket Costs.

July 2017 - Older Australians are significant users of after-hours primary care in their homes and in residential aged care facilities, and therefore the conclusions and recommendations of the preliminary report are of particular interest to COTA.
