COTA Australia, in collaboration with Consumers Health Forum of Australia, The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, Australasian Musculoskeletal Imaging Group and Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association wrote to the Australian Government raising concerns with a recent recommendation to prevent people 50 years and over from accessing MRI’s on their knees unless recommended by a specialist.
COTA recommended that Government not implement this recommendation which would cut access to this service for patients aged 50 years and over, because it is not evidence-based; does not consider downstream cost; arbitrarily discriminates against patients based on their age; and will directly undermine patient care.
