The Federal Government’s response to the Quality of Advice Review, which was aimed at improving the accessibility and affordability of quality financial advice, shows a commitment to ensuring consumers – including older people – are given the best possible financial advice, COTA Australia says.

Aged Care Reform was the centrepiece of this year’s Federal Budget, both in policy and financial terms. Apart from aged care there are not huge gains in this Budget.

COTA Australia has welcomed the Morrison Government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Hayne Royal Commission on misconduct in the banking, superannuation and financial services industry. The Government will address all recommendations requiring legislation by the end of 2020.

A new landmark report has found the majority of older Australians feel a decade younger than their current age, overwhelmingly support assisted dying legislation, and nearly half feel less valued by society than when they were younger.   

Older Australians and their families will for the first time have access to provide or read an online ‘Consumer Review’ of any aged care provider across Australia and request online information from those aged care providers who elect to participate in the ‘Provider Comparison’ tool.
