Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia hopes that throughout the election campaign the voices of Australia’s older people will be heard – both through political action and through media coverage.

Australia’s leading advocate for older people, Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia, is calling for greater choice, simplicity and more meaningful support for older people in its 2020 Pre-Budget Submission to the Federal Government ahead of a formative year for the future of older Australians.

COTA Australia has welcomed the Morrison Government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Hayne Royal Commission on misconduct in the banking, superannuation and financial services industry. The Government will address all recommendations requiring legislation by the end of 2020.

A new landmark report has found the majority of older Australians feel a decade younger than their current age, overwhelmingly support assisted dying legislation, and nearly half feel less valued by society than when they were younger.   

Older Australians and their families will for the first time have access to provide or read an online ‘Consumer Review’ of any aged care provider across Australia and request online information from those aged care providers who elect to participate in the ‘Provider Comparison’ tool.
