Aged care, healthcare and pensions are the top three most important issues for the 7 million older Australians heading to the ballot box next Saturday, according to the results of a national survey released today by leading seniors advocate, COTA Australia.

Anglicare’s Rental Affordability Snapshot released today reveals aged pensioners are among those most vulnerable to rental housing stress in Australia, with rental housing affordability for people on the aged pension dropping to a six-year low.

Australia’s leading senior’s advocacy organisation COTA Australia has congratulated the government on the launch of its new Life Checks campaign, website and resources, which may potentially provide life checks and information for more than 9 million mid-life and older Australians.

A new landmark report has found the majority of older Australians feel a decade younger than their current age, overwhelmingly support assisted dying legislation, and nearly half feel less valued by society than when they were younger.   

Older Australians have fared poorly in the 2014 Budget with hits to the age pension, introduction of co-payments for health care, changes to aged care, and the abolition of measures to improve housing affordability.
